At Amazon, the Weekly Business Review (WBR) is a structured, data-driven meeting designed to keep leadership deeply connected to both strategy and execution. It differs from traditional leadership meetings in the following ways:

Unlike conventional wisdom that suggests senior executives should focus only on high-level strategy, Amazon operates on the principle that leaders must “dive deep.” This is codified in the company’s leadership principles:

“Leaders operate at all levels, stay connected to the details, audit frequently, and are skeptical when metrics and anecdotes differ. No task is beneath them.”

For this reason, Amazon’s WBR report includes over 200 metrics that are reviewed systematically in a one-hour meeting.

Amazon structures this in a way that is easy to understand:

→ Every metric follows the same visualization format.
→ Data is presented in a 6-week and 12-month trend view, making it easy to spot patterns.
→ Metric owners are responsible for presenting insights, not just reporting numbers.

The purpose of the WBR is to understand what is happening in the business at a granular level, allowing leaders to identify and act on key trends.
